Before we worry about popularity, we should worry about functionality.

You still didn't get it. It's about usability, which is grown a kind of 
science, while often ignored here - with some the notable exceptions, yes.

Popularity has almost nothing to do with usability, in my experience.

So why you are talking about?
At stake is how to collect info WRT usability - which entered yet in a 
comprehensive and systematic way AFAIS.


And again, this is tangential to what Richard wanted to discuss.


Richard's question made some topics un-deniable which were raised already. The 
need to reflect the tutorial for example.
