To answer my own question: indeed, it seems like jpeg-7, jpeg-8, and
jpeg-9 (the latest) each one breaks binary compatibility with previous
versions. Which is unfortunate, but I guess we have no choice but to
adapt.
So this patch looks OK to me, thanks.
