Yes, it's slow. I will file a bug against it.

Yes, there is: don't. As I already wrote, there's no need for you to
do this translation at all. It is enough to provide the bzr
revision-id that corresponds to each git sha1. Any Emacs developer
who wants to see the details of the revision can use the revision-id
directly, or convert it to revno if she wants. No need for your
scripts to do that.
Would that solve the problem?
