Why did the bug arise in the first place?  In the configure test,

   PKG_CHECK_MODULES(GCONF, gconf-2.0 >= 2.13, HAVE_GCONF=yes, HAVE_GCONF=no)

should have returned HAVE_GCONF=no on OS X (I assume the Gconf libraries
wouldn't be present).  So HAVE_GCONF should not have been defined.
