It wouldn't have taken place in the first place.

Indeed.  `goto-bob' and `goto-eob' would simplify completion.

Not in this case: Instances of (goto-char 1) like those in reftex-* or
`edit-tab-stops-note-changes' could have been avoided so understanding
these would have been affected positively.
