    I for one has found it quite irritating having to spend so much time 
    trying to fix problems with Emacs on w32 instead of raising the level of 
    Emacs in different areas.

You could install GNU/Linux on a machine, and do your Emacs
development there.  Then not only your editor, but all the rest of
your system, will not subjugate you.
