When I do:

   $ emacs -Q

   C-x v d

and go to any "git" working directory (for example, Emacs git
checkout), vc-dir starts up and writes its first three lines. Then:

   error in process sentinel: vc-git-status-printer: Symbol's function
   definition is void: vc-status-fileinfo->state
