    Btw, why is isearch-x.el a separate file?  It has only a few short
    functions, and seems to be needed for anyone who uses an input
    method.  Why not add it to isearch.el?

Maybe that would be ok now.  In the past we went to much greater
lengths to try to reduce the minimal size of Emacs, but that is
much less important nowadays.
