Are you saying that this problem only occurs > for utf-8 encoding? IIRC such tables are used either during encoding to unicode (i.e. if you save as utf-8) or upon decoding (but only if you've enabled unify-8859-on-decoding). My memory is fuzzy, tho. Stefan
