Why not just volumes 1 and 2, like the ELisp reference manual?  The
division could be basics vs. advanced, generally speaking, but there's
no need to spell it out in case a third volume is needed, or topics
are moved around.

I like the idea of one manual, rather than several.  The Emacs Manual
is how I learned about most of the Emacs features I use.
