This just dawned on me today.

Wouldn't it make sense to support the concept of an "internal frame".

Most other modern editors support this. IE the following screenshots:

http://www.kdevelop.org/graphics/screenshots/1.4/HelpWindow01.jpg]

http://www.mozillazine.org/screenshots/screensnew/modern/browser.jpg

The last one obviously isn't an Editor but it does illustrate the purpose.

Basically these could include things like a speedbar, UML documentation, dired
for the current buffer's directory, etc.

I have seen the ECB team try to build something like this via 'advice' with
mixed results (without changing the UI it gets confusing).

Any thoughts about this?

Ideally these would be like real frames (AKA other-window navigates to it) and
could also be minimized (shrunk) and maximized (expanded).
