It's because one version had "#!/usr/bin/env python", and the other 
"#!/opt/local/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.4/Resources/Python.a
pp/Contents/MacOS/Python"

Most probably an effect of MacPorts (I am running MacOS X) which 
replaces the default path by its own version.
