For me, it's not so much appearance, more functionality. If GNUstep is offering windows/macintosh/next menu styles. Then the window manager should support each of those styles fully. By only supporting NEXT style menus, window maker is forcing you into one paradigm, when GNUstep itself doesn't. Window Maker also doesn't use GNUstep themes or code, so the UI for it feels off...

just for the records because it might look like a green field:

we have a browser and a browser framework for quite a while.

But currently nobody is working on them:
