Help under ubutnu 6.10

Hello, I'm trying to run the charmap app, as a test, and I don't seem to have much luck. I'm sure I'm missing a step somewhere, or it might be that GNUStep doesn't work on ubtunto Edgy?

Anway, I first run the script:

. /usr/lib/GNUstep/System/Tools/GNUstep.sh

then I try and run an app

openapp charmap.app

and I get this error:
Can't find the required application: charmap.app!


any assistance would be most appreciated.
