There are some other advantages:
- If you're able to write a concise and meaningful summary of your 
changes, you probably understood what you were doing.
- Comments serve as a reminder of what you've done so far and why, not 
just for you but also for other, new developers who want to work on a 
project. Humans tend to forget ("Just why did I make *that* change?"), 
so every memory aid is welcome. Who knows if GWorkspace volunteers 
were chased away by the lack of comments?
- Sure, you've got a bug tracker to do bookkeeping on bugs, but it 
might be a bother to find out in which revision you introduced a bug 
as a result of fixing another.
- ChangeLogs are easier to compile from a list of already written 
comments. Everybody loves changelogs!
