One addition to Readme.DARWIN:

echo 'export CC=<gcc install dir>/bin/gcc' >> ~/.profile

won't work when packages have been installed via Fink, because 
FinkCommander.app apparently creates a .profile with some strange user. 
Even suo'ing this doesn't work. However, a sudo pico ~/.profile and 
manually adding the line works just fine.
