I don't think that this is still valid. I guess the policy is to keep
*GSXML* out of gstep-base (though this is the first time I hear of such
a policy), having NSXMLParser in Cocoa Foundation obviously changes
that.
The official word, AFAIK, is that XML stuff in general is to be kept out
of base, except on an OPTIONAL basis, which is how it is now. It's not
just GSXML.


There's no policy like that, that I know of.

My policy is to try to make external libraries optional, if at all possible (e.g. not critical to the operation of GNUstep) to reduce the frustration of people trying to compile GNUstep. Way back when libxml was added, it was not critical. Although perhaps it is becoming more so, no-one has ever changed the optional status of the library.
