Well, I knew someone was going to mention this:

The basic idea is that there is no Local. Applications, whether package/installed or user installed go in /Applications, that's just where apps go. There is still a /System/Applications, but it is being used for apps which the user will never directly launch, such as GWorkspace or Stepbox.

Just about everything, besides the gnustep-core, is installed in /.

That's just the way i decided to do it.

Splattering the root directory? That seems to be pretty charged statement, what is your meaning?

Anyhow. GNUstep is navigated and the applications are launched by directly traversing the filesystem, there is no obfuscated "start" menu setup. Therefore, the filesystem should be made to be as easily navigable as possible.

They don't allow for exceptions to be made for *Debian* packages. That

Why is splattering the root dir any more sensible than installing into
/usr/lib/GNUstep ?

The only question I have for the setup is: what was the reason the Local domain is installed as "/" instead of "/Local"? Wouldn't installing the GNUstep programs to "/Local" keep a better separation of "GNUstep oriented stuff" from "standard GNU/Linux" stuff? It would also match the GNUstep Filesystem Hierarchy Document.
