I use GWorkspace and am pretty happy with it. While some might
complain about its lack of responsiveness, after two years of using
Nautilus it seems light as a feather to me. I think its clunkiness
comes from the general clunkiness of the GNUstep libs.
That said, here are my feature requests.
* A "Run..." menu option like in WindowMaker. Because Backgrounder
takes over the root menu, you can't click on the background and get
the WindowMaker menu, so GWorkspace is going to have to imitate some
of that functionality. A "Run..." option should be extremely easy to
implement. If the developers are interested, I'll do it myself in
the next couple of days and send a patch.
* An "Open With..." menu option. I usually use xpdf as my PDF
default viewer, but there are times when I'd like to use gpdf. There
should not have to change the universal PDF default just to open a
file once with a different program (not to mention add an .app
wrapper).
