Hi
I think the "stepped" concept was pretty nifty, but perhaps a little
disorienting for visitors. Impressive design is a good goal, but usability
is critical. The current site isn't very inspiring to look at, but it's
fairly easy to find information.
Fluid design, that adapts to browser window width smoothly, is an important
usability feature. Many people I know don't run browsers in kiosk-mode
or even full-screen mode. It's well-known in some usability circles that
visitors seldom scroll down, and even less often, sideways. CSS has pretty
good support for fluid design.
Monitor manufacturers have worked for a long time to get screens where
high-contrast pixels can be displayed acceptably. Have good reasons
for not making text and graphics clearly stand out from background colours
and graphics! (For this reason, I don't much like the current site's
medium-grey background, which isn't very cheerful-looking, either!)
