dgs and dpsnx.agent problems

Hello,

After installing dgs on a relatively virgin RH7.2 system, dpsnx.agent
produces the following output:

Not able to remove the old socket!
There might be another server running!

there is not any other substantial output or clue as to a possible solution. 
This error occurrs even after fresh reboots and all programs using
dpsnx.agent die upon its invocation.

Any help is much appreciated, and please CC me any replies.
