Any chance you can setup your git repository to serve up over http for
those sitting behind such-configured firewalls? I understand git over
http isn't as efficient, but it would certainly make it more convenient.

If you are blocked by your firewall, I would recommend talking to whoever made that decision and convince them to unblock port 9418. You can explain that just because a service is on a port other than 80 doesn't make it less secure, and that being on port 80 is no guarantee of safety.
