I have not seen this before. I updated the 2.1 release to contain lilypond-bin. Maybe it will work for you.

  3. I see a very small window that is used to enter rhythm and then notes

  6. I attempt to enter rhythmic values but nothing happens. I’m unable to enter anything on the staff

I'm teaching today, and now preparing for my class. I won't have to time to continue with this until tonight after 6PM EDT.

What you have from git is the source code - it's difficult to build,
which is why Jeremiah does it.
