Thank you very much for responding - a small screen user is just what is
needed to set up a default set of palettes.
For your immediate purposes:
Right click on a palette button and choose edit palette. Undock/Hide
palettes. (Or reduce buttons on palettes you want).
I'll add a hide all palettes option - but if you have time to suggest a
suitable set of palettes and buttons for new users it would be great.
(You can add buttons, create palettes, etc etc all with the right click
thing).
