My guess is you have the wrong paper size: Denemo defaults to A4, you
may need US letter size. This

You don't need to highlight an object to delete it, you can put the
cursor on it and use the Delete command (Del, Del with the default key
shortcuts IIRC) or put the cursor on the object after it and use the
DeletePreviousObject command (Backspace on everyone's shortcuts AFAIK).

It sounds like your keyboard shortcuts are in some strange way, if you
look up the command in the menu system the shortcut(s) should appear in
blue next to the label. The Delete commands are in the Edit menu.

It sounds like the same problem as above, strange shortcuts. To test
this out, remove or hide your .denemo-0.9.7 directory (folder) from your
home directory. It should start with the default shortcuts then.

Note names are default shortcut for edit/append, Shift-Note Names are
default shortcut for insert (IIRC). For note-durations it is the
reverse, 0, 1, 2 is insert a duration, Shift-0, 1, 2 are for
edit/append.

Denemo went modeless years ago - modal programs are confusing for most
people. I am not sure what you are referring to here - I believe the old
modes *do* still exist but I haven't heard of anyone using them for
years - it could be the explanation of all your woes if they are turned
on.

When modes were in use there was/is a whole menu for switching mode and
it used to alter the other menus to suit the mode. This is ancient stuff
though and I doubt you are talking about that - what do you mean by
"mode"???

just to say, I regularly create scores with hundreds a measures in many
parts, so don't suffer quietly, something is completely broken with your
system by the sound of it.
