What you gathered was sufficient to show that this was an unnecessary
crash. How to get this crash is not obvious, but there was no need for
it to have resulted in loss of user data, that was due to a zealot doing
the coding (not me! I expect people to use this program for real work
long before it is ever "finished").
It (the crash scenario you got) may be a circumstance that was happening
but had gone unremarked until I inadvertently left DEBUG defined in the
selection code (while working on undo). Anyway, I have replaced the code
with a non-crashing warning, and removed the forced defining of DEBUG.
