It's nothing you're doing wrong, the problem is that the archiver (ar)
is encountering an internal error while building the archive for the
readline library:

You could see if there's a patch for the development tools
(especially ar) from Sun.  That might fix the problem.

Also, there is a ddd-3.3.1.  Trying to compile that one probably isn't
going to solve the problem in this case, but for stable products like
ddd, it's usually a good idea to try the latest release, if you're having
problems getting an earlier release to compile.
