If you admit that you do not have the expertise to examine the (very simple) lzip file format, why do you describe as "disparaging" my findings about the (much more complex) xz format?

As part of the peer-review process, I sent the xz article[1] to the authors of the xz format (who sure know the format better than you do), and Lasse Collin was so kind of suggesting a couple minor corrections. You can be 100% sure that every flaw described there is real.

I did not start this thread and I am not trying to convince you to use my programs. You may very well process lzip files using any of the other tools out there whose fine (de)compression code has been mainly written by Lasse Collin and Igor Pavlov.

The only thing I would like to ask to the coreutils maintainers is that they offer an alternative tarball format. I don't mind if it is lzip, bzip2 or gzip.
