Beware that:

* string-copy! is currently broken for some cases in CHICKEN. Master has
  a fix (6b36695d94e0bd977e0d85d48438f621128e1101), but it has net been
  released yet.

* substring/shared is the same as substring in CHICKEN, AFAIK.
