I have a similar problem, involving Macs!

However, when I had a NetBSD workstation, I liked the ion window
manager - but I always wanted to do my own, that would better combine
tiling windows and floating windows in the way I THOUGHT BEST DAMMIT
so messing around with my own WM was always on the cards - and if I
get around to that again one day, cons-wm will form a great
foundation :-)
