just fetched this and did
../SRCDIR/configure --disable-nls
make
make check
make DESTRIR=somewhere install
At first two of the tests (ii-0041-test, ii-0050-test) went into an endless
loop, caused by the buggy zdiff from gzip-1.3.9. After upgrading to
gzip-1.3.12 everything was fine.
However, there were two gcc warnings (`discards qualifier'). I think they
prevent texinfo from being built with a C++ compiler.
Anyway, attached is a patch cleaning some of that `const' mess, and at the
same time removing quite a lot of `(char *)' casts.
Another patch adds a space in install-info's usage message, such that
help2man handles this correctly.
Maybe you prefer to move everything one column to the right?
I'll have a look at texi2dvi's usage message and see what can be done there.
Thus another patch might follow.
