tar tjf and xjf invocations work fine with 1.3.25, but 1.14 fails
with the message:
./src/tar: Unaligned block (5000 bytes) in archive
./src/tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
if the bzip2 it finds is linked against uClibc.
Given the message, I'd be guessing that tar is making assumptions
about the blocking of writes to stdout. I tried to test against
1.14.90, but alpha.gnu.org isn't answering the phone when I call.
If I can do anything to help track this down and create a
fix, let me know, I'll be happy to help. For instance, a
statically-linked bzip2 against uClibc, should run on any x86
Linux, is available in the Bent Linux distro, specifically in
<URL:http://bent.latency.net/bent/1.1/bpm/bzip2-1.0.2.cpio.bz2>; put
that ahead of your system bzip2 on your path and tar-1.14 should
oblige and cease working:-).
