Notice, however, that the only use for this variable is
when configuring the package (e.g.
Ah, I didn't read the NEWS entry carefully enough ("... Configuration
time"). In that case, DEFAULT_ makes sense.
The makeinfo var, by contrast, is for runtime. So, maybe
DEFAULT_TAR_OUTPUT_FORMAT and MAKEINFO_OUTPUT_FORMAT is the way to go.
Sound right?
