I only had a quick look at the manual, but I wondered how your new format
is fundamentally different / better comparing to established ones, like
YAML, <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YAML>? I think it'd help to put such
a comparison into the manual, too.
YAML is much more complex than the rec format. In rec there is only one
data structure: the record. It does not try to map the commonly found
data structures in programming languages, and it is not designed to be a
"data serialization language". The rec specification is designed to
make it easy to write recfiles by hand and to maintain them, without
having to remember a lot of syntactical rules.
I will add a note in the manual about this. Thanks for the note :)
