[Bug-readline] ctrl-R malfunction in readline-6.3

I upgraded to the latest trisquel release and noted this problem:

In a terminal, whether typing to the bash prompt or to my program that calls readline, if I use ctrl-R and a text fragment, it finds and displays previous input normally, but when I use a cursor key the line goes blank. I can move the cursor over the line and edit the text; I just can't see what I'm doing.

In an x-term the cursor key makes the line be re-displayed, moved a few characters left, without erasing the previous display, so that a few spurious characters are shown on the end.

These problems do not occur with input lines that are recalled by using the UP-arrow key.

Here's a workaround:

recall a line by using ctrl-R, then use UP-arrow and DN-arrow to get a 'normal' display of that line which can then be edited without problems.

readline version 6.3

you ask for the 'release status'. Where do I find that?

machine and OS: this is output of uname -a

Linux user-ThinkPad-X60 3.13.0-51-generic #84+7.0trisquel2 SMP Thu Apr 30 10:28:47 UTC 2015 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux
compilation flags or config.h: I don't know how to find that out
