Hello,
When I tried to run parted on a virgin IDE harddisk using the command "parted
/dev/hdb" I received the following error message:
"Warning: Unable to open /dev/hdb read-write (Read-only file system). /dev/hdb
has been opened read-only.
You found a bug in GNU Parted. Please email a bug report to address@hidden
containg the version (1.6.19), and the following message:
The sector size on /dev/hdb is 2048 bytes. Parted is known not to work
properly with drives with sector size other than 512 bytes
"
(I copied text this manually so there might be a few type errors, in case you
want to search for this text in your source code).
This version of "parted" comes from the CentOS 4.2 distribution.
I'm actually supprised that the sector size is 2048 bytes since my system has
another harddisk of exactly the same brand and type.
If I run "cfdisk /dev/hda" (the other disk) and print the partition table then
the sector size is 512.
Do you have any idea what caused parted to give this failure? Is it a bug of
parted or is it "just" a warning to the user that parted is not suitable for
hard disks with this sector size.
With kind regards,
