Sounds right. Parted has its own ext2 code what isn't compatible with new
ext2/ext3 features (added over the last 2-3 years).

One might convert ext3 to ext2 and disable all features (man tune2fs) then
use parted then convert it back to ext3, features enabled. Running e2fsck
during these shouldn't be forgotten and makeing full backup before doing
these.

AFAIK, nothing is planned (no time) but contributions are very welcomed
and sent patches will be revised and applied, or even CVS write access
granted.
