Probe is implemented in Parted but it's slightly incorrect. Signature in
the boot sector isn't "NTFS" but "NTFS    " (four spaces in the end).

Definitely. Otherwise in ntfsprogs detect, resize, check, create 
are implemented, copy is not but as a first step it could be done 
as (shrink+clone or clone+enlarge). 

Oh yes, they aren't implemented as a library function -- that depends 
on demand/volunteer.  And that's quite low due to the existence of many
wrappers (Mandrake's DiskDrake, SUSE's YAST, QTparted, etc).
