It works like any other library... it needs to be installed into
a path found in /etc/ld.so.conf.  Some [stupid?] distros don't
include /usr/local/lib, which is the default path for libreiserfs.

Hint: you can use strace(1) to get an idea of what programs are
trying to do.

Also you can install libreiserfs into another place by means of using --libdir copnfigure option
