Hi

I'm not 100% sure that this is the correct mailing list but the USER doc does
state that help can be obtained here.

I would like some advise regarding the re-sizing of partition /home

address@hidden /]# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda8 251M 52M 186M 22% /
/dev/hda1 53M 3.5M 46M 7% /boot
/dev/hda6 7.3G 6.0G 1020M 86% /home
/dev/hda5 7.3G 920M 6.0G 14% /usr
/dev/hda7 251M 104M 134M 44% /var

As you can see from fdisk -l (below) there appears to be free space on the disk
from 2068-2482 which I would like to add to the /home partition.

Is it possible to do a straight forward re-size on the /home partition.

If so will it effect the /var partition on hda7

I've looked at the parted USER help doc but the examples always seem to require
space from the partition next door and in this example the
spare space is separated from /home by the /var partion.

Any help with the exact commands would be great.

Thanks for any help

James

address@hidden /]# fdisk /dev/hda

The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 2482.
There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024,
and could in certain setups cause problems with:
1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., old versions of LILO)
2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs
   (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)
