help with mkpart |

New guy here,
I'm attempting to create a partition on my secondary drive. I removed
all previously formatted partitions as they were no longer needed.
Now if I issue the command:
mkpart logical ext2 0 1000
and parted simply blurts back the list of commands, presumably because
it can't interpret the command line I'm sending it. I believe I'm
passing the parameters it's asking for, but there must be something I'm
not getting. Can anyone give me a hand?
appreciate any information on this,
Karl
