When I was sure it had finished its trip and landed in the vault I pressed the button on my wrist transmitter. Sorry. He handed the paper to me and I tore it to pieces. Some last effort of the expiring accounting machine gave me an unexpected dividend. The scene was lovely but distracting. The police undoubtedly had the entire town sealed and were tearing it apart building by building looking for the truck. The air from the hall felt like a furnace. Why a battleship? Why all the trouble and years of work to get a ship that two people could just barely manage? With a tenth of the effort Pepe could have had a cruiser that would have suited his purposes just as well.
