An earlier posting of mine said the SuSE 8.0, 8.1, (?etc) default "linux" console TERM did not include ccc in terminfo. While this is true, it was misleading.

SuSE installs using RPMs and the "linux" TERM entry for the terminfo db is installed with the ncurses package. This "linux" TERM does not have ccc.

That makes it older than ncurses 5.3. I have a SuSE 9.0 at hand to check,
and see it has terminfo dating from 2003-01-25, which is certainly newer than that. The ccc as part of the normal "linux" TERM dates to 20020928.

However, the SuSE terminfo package installs other linux TERM entries. These include; "linux-c" and "linux-c-nc". These TERMs do include color. Eric Raymond's terminfo source can be found in /usr/share/doc/packages/ncurses .

Technically, that's ncurses' terminfo source. Raymond hasn't contributed
to it for several years:

######## TERMINAL TYPE DESCRIPTIONS SOURCE FILE
#
# This version of terminfo.src is distributed with ncurses.
# Report bugs and new terminal descriptions to
# address@hidden
#
# The original header is preserved below for reference. It is noted that there
# is a newer version which differs in some cosmetic details; we have decided
# to not change the header unless there is also a change in content.

So SuSE installs things differently, but still quite completely.

But not entirely as per design. I don't have the corresponding rpm script to see what was done, but what's installed is a little usual (infocmp uses _nc_free_and_exit for instance).

Perhaps SuSE packagers read this mailing list (though based on some comments from a year ago, I'm not sure).
