Follow-up Comment #1:

You can't put a comment inside a variable or function reference.  Or rather,
you can, but it's not treated as a comment; it's just normal text.  As normal
text, commas have their regular effect.

I've retagged this bug as a "Documentation" issue so I'll remember to go
through the documentation to see if this can be clarified.
