You can change the required version of autoconf/automake in configure.in
and in all Makefile.am files to the versions you have installed on your
system. And with --disable-nls you don't even need a working gettext.
In most cases that's much faster than upgrading half a dozen tools
to the last available release. And more surprisingly, it works,
at least in most cases. ;-)
