I've provided patches for quite a few projects without ever needing
to run the projects auto stuff.
And I could do quite a lot of protocol fixing here before I'd need to
change any auto files.
I understand that there are plenty of projects that prefer to
distribute an autogen.sh - I just think that in this case (because the
autotool versions are quite fresh) it might be a good idea to provide
a configure (even if core hackers .cvsignore it).
btw a nightly wouldn't have really solved my problem: I needed a build
quick, I ended up using courier but that was mainly because I was very
cross with you all /8->
