The only thing with _not_ assigning a day of the week is that no one 
ends up doing anything as everyone thinks that someone else will pick it 
up (there's probably some official term for that human behaviour) or 
worse, we get duplication of work and confusing trackers.

Yes it is volunteer, but this at least gives a framework to work around.
