It corroborates some research I was doing this afternoon on make and fontforge. The bottom line is that it is actually very difficult to sneak this information into the otf-tables because of build-order issues compounded with metafont's inability to spit out log files that enumerate glyphs as a series of lines and 3rd order beziers (or at least my inability to tell it how to do this).
I've fixed the problem in a new version by removing build-related stuff altogether and not caching the font data. It actually doesn't slow the patch down in the tests I've done and may in fact be a better way to do this for fonts like gonville that wouldn't have a font-cache.scm but may have svg backends.
