The problem is that right-padding is calculated in order to calculate the springs that are then used in spring-and-rod calculations.

The only way this could be pulled off in the current model of LilyPond is if the padding is set as the smaller of the two values and then the larger accidental is slotted in if there is enough room, but this is supposing that the height of the two accidentals are the same. Otherwise, the pure height approximations will use the larger of the two, which would lead to spacing weirdness in certain situations.
