Comment #2 on issue 1018 by percival.music.ca: colors in web->examples
would be nice
http://code.google.com/p/lilypond/issues/detail?id=1018
The examples are generated from .ly files during out build process (similar
to
Documentation/snippets/ ), so any change must be made to the .ly file. It
might be
good to work on the .ly file directly instead of sending .pdfs around. The
files are
in Documentation/web/examples/
This is the kind of thing I was looking for, but I have a few concerns:
- I'd like to have more colours (especially not just red, since that's used
already
on the Ancient music example) -- blue, green, etc. Maybe not yellow, since
that
doesn't show up so well against white.
- I'm not certain if Schenkerian notation ever uses colours. If the
standard for
this type of musical analysis is *never* to use colours, then we'll look
like idiots
if we add them to that particular example.
- the Schenker example is credited to Kris Schaffer, and linked to his
Linux Journal
article -- I'm a bit hesitant to change it.
(BTW, I noticed a missing period after the link; could you add that?)
ick, I just re-read my initial comment and realized that I explicitly asked
for
something in the Schenker example. Oops! (in my slight defence, IIRC when
I wrote
this request, we weren't linking to the linux journal article)
... ah, screw it. It's open-source. Let's colour-up the Schenker example,
but add a
sentence to the description saying that we've added color for better
visibility.
Please use one colour for P+N scripts, one for 3^ 2^ 1^, one for two-note
slurs, one
for multi-note non-dotted slurs, and one for dotted slurs. Oh, and one for
the
diagonal lines between notes of different staffs?
hmm. That might be a bit too garish. Ok, what about P+N, 3^2^1^, slurs,
and angled
lines? 4 colours is probably a good number to use. Or you could use more
colours,
but use different shades of colours for the slurs (i.e. dark green, medium
green,
light green).
Oh, there's also the I V I chords. Those should have another colour (or at
least
shade), too.
